Another dead-end little town along the endless road

Another day I take my choice:
the rails or the road
And I have stood in the sunlight
remembering the pain
Of other times and other places,
standing in the rain
Another blameless shower falls on
the traveler's stolid head
Another blameless cop regrets and
hauls him off to bed
And I have stood in the sunlight
remembering the fun
Of other times and other places,
standing poised to run
Another time she touched me, she
looked up in my face
Again she sorrowed softly over my
westward haste
And I wearily dreamt of the sunlight,
the while she pulled me down
Of another time, another place,
another dead-end little town |
